How do things work at the BBC? Does the production team just present the broadcast team with a tape when they finish and it just goes out?
Of course not, the tape is watched and verified against watershed guidelines and edited and then verified again before transmission. In the same way Clarkson’s comments on the One Show would be verified before transmission.
So why is Clarkson in the firing line? Surely these people who check the stuff should be in the firing line? Why didn’t they say “Oh that could be offensive and cause a bit of a ruction, let’s take that out.”
Who signed off on Top Gear before it went out?
Let’s find out who that was and leave Clarkson to carry on being Clarkson.
