Donation Inflation: The Real Scandal

26 Mar

They’re calling it “Cam Dine With Me”, “Cash For Cameron”, “donorlunchgate” and “Dinner Plate Gate” and a variety of other stupid names (stop sticking -gate at the end of things, it’s not “new”, “witty” or “clever”) but they’re missing the real scandal.  The massive rate of inflation.

Only a decade ago a donation of a mere £125K could get you a Prime Minister who would intercede with a foreign power to help you swing a £0.3 billion business deal for your non British company, the same Prime Minister would then misinform the Commons about the matter and pretend the company was British
.

Now twice that amount gets you a meal … possibly.

By contrast if you donate large amounts to the Labour Party the guarantee is that you then don’t have to meet their leader.

Will you be celebrating, a week on monday, the 20-year anniversary of the last time the Tories won a majority?

They’re looking pretty desperate at the moment. If the Labour Party finds someone capable of hitting the target, they won’t make this term.
